The Belcourt Theatre: I've been there hundreds of times, and the majority of the time it's for a movie. But I recently went to their Midnight Movie for the first time, and it was for "House" (Hausu). "House" is a Japanese horror-comedy cult movie made in 1977 by Nobuhiko Obayashi. It is among the weirdest movies I've ever come across, though I haven't decided yet whether it is weirder than "Funky Forest: First Contact". If "House" has an edge in the race, it would be because of the break-neck pace at which the brain-bending weird stuff is coming at you. But "House" would easily fit in my top 5 when it comes to being both bizarre and enjoyable, as would "Funky Forest".
There is an oft-repeated piano melody that I daresay would be firmly lodged in the coconut of anybody who has experienced "House". It's hard to shake. If I ever hear it again, I have to think I'd recognize it instantly. You might describe it as soap-operatic; it's like a nightmarish combination of "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" and "My Heart Will Go On". Yes, that is the melody I have stuck in my head. So what else could I do, but write some English lyrics to this melody that describe a few random memories from the movie? That's a rhetorical question, because you know there's no good answer to it.
The Love Theme to House (Hausu)
House
Has a cat And an aunt And a well
And
A piano That Could eat you
And
The aunt died Long ago But she's there
To
Eat young girls Then Wear her wedding gown |
