Cooking, And The History of Cooking

Cooking is an art, but it is also a science. So it is alot like other things that are also two different things, like pimento and cheese or pencils. Cooking has been occurring for a very long time now. People invented cooking so that they could eat plants and animals. Most animals can't be eaten without cooking turning them into food. But you can also eat other things that aren't plants and animals thanks to cooking.

Records from Egypt were made in the year 4000 BC. They prove that people in Egypt know how to cook also. This is because after dinner they would go to a pyramid and write on the wall about how good it was. At first cooking was done with volcanoes. But then they discovered that other fires could also heat food, and this would not kill as many people as before. Indians and Chinese people also learned how to cook using hot rocks or burning houses. Sticks and stoves and pits were some of the first cooking places. People would add fire to them and then put animals on top.

People learned how to set water on fire so that they could boil food too. This is why they discovered pots. Pots were discovered in Egypt and also by Eskimos. Jews knew how to cook because it was in the Bible.

The kinds of cooking are baking, broiling, roasting, boiling, frying, and stewing. Baking is cooking with bread. Broiling is like boiling except without water. Roasting is cooking that is slow. Frying occurs with fat. Stewing is used to make stew. Cooking that is not like any of these is done using a crock pot.

Today there are so many things invented for cooking that kitchens are made to hold them all. People who have kitchens but do not cook are called bachelors. People who cook with big hats are called a chef. Food that is made without a kitchen is called barbecue. Kitchens in the city are called restaurants.

If it weren't for cooking we would not have many things we enjoy today, like refried beans and meatloaf and croutons. I am glad that I know people who cook, and someday I hope to remember how to cook too.
